Teacher of the Year

McDavid-Jones Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017 is Mrs. Mary Knight. To help her celebrate this occasion Arkema our Partner in Education invited Mary and her husband, Chris, to lunch at Felix’s Fish Camp.

Mrs. Knight has been an early childhood teacher for 26 years.  She attended Auburn University, where she received her BS in Early Childhood Education.  She received her Master’s Degree from Springhill College, also in Early Childhood Education. During her teaching tenure, she has served as a PreK, Kindergarten, and first grade teacher. She has also served as a reading intervention teacher, and a Reading Coach. In 2007, she certified as a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early and Middle Childhood Literacy: Reading-Language Arts, and is currently going through the process to renew her certificate.  Mrs. Knight has served as a member of the ACIP committee, the SACS review committee, Digital Literacy Committee, the Math PLT team, and has taught OneNote online, through MCPSS.

Mrs. Knight is a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority, where she has served in the roles of president and president elect, as well as volunteered in community outreach activities with ADK.  She is also a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she is a member of the Young Adults SS Class, and is a member of the floral committee.

When not teaching, Mrs. Knight enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris and visiting her sons, Kyle and Blake, who are both in the United States Air Force. She also enjoys photography, reading, working in her yard, and watching Auburn football.
